Biblical Counselling at Olive Tree Therapy
What is Biblical Counselling?
Biblical Counselling seeks to help Christians understand and process their life and circumstances so they can see how the hope of the Gospel of Jesus’ speaks to their heart. It is from the heart which comes both godly and ungodly desires and drives both godly and ungodly behaviours.
Biblical Counselling is not about “problem solving” but helping people grow in maturity in Christ that leads to a healthier relationship with God and with others around them.
Whether someone is experiencing anxiety, anger, addiction, grief, trauma, relational breakdown, spiralling or numbness, Biblical Counselling seeks to integrate a person’s heart and mind, feelings and thoughts, life and doctrine underneath the grace of God and His Word.
What can I expect in a session of Biblical Counselling at Olive Tree Therapy?
A biblical counselling session at Olive Tree Therapy is both a structured and relational space to process thoughts, feelings, relationships, unique history and circumstances in light of biblical truth.
It is an integrated approach that is emotion-focused as a primary means of growing in self-awareness.
Just as Jesus says that sin comes from the heart (Mark 7, Matthew 15), the purpose of each session is not about behaviour management but a journey that works towards people being able to articulate and focus on deeper issues of the heart – becoming aware of true and false beliefs, desires and fears, helpful and unhelpful thoughts which drive our words and behaviours and ultimately our relationships.
As it is God who brings true change in a person’s life, you can expect to be entrusted to God in prayer before, during and after each session.
Who conducts Biblical Counselling at Olive Tree Therapy?
Biblical Counselling at Olive Tree Therapy is conducted by Rev. Simon Wong, Chaplain at Olive Tree Therapy. Simon completed his theological training at Christ College and has served in pastoral ministry since 2010. He has studied Mentoring and Coaching at Sydney Mission and Bible College, and is currently studying Biblical Counselling with the Christian Counselling & Educational Foundation toward accreditation with Biblical Counselling Australia.
As a part-time pastor at Burwood Presbyterian he firmly believes in the local church. At the same time, he recognises that pathways like mentoring, coaching and counselling are opportunities beyond the local church for Christians to receive deeper and personalised help to grow under the Word of God in a trusted relationship.
Simon is passionate about being a “physician of the soul” by walking alongside Christians so that they can understand their own heart in light of God’s Word in order to experience freedom, healing and healthier relationships with God and others.
